The Republic of Lithuania is a country in the Baltic region of Europe and sits on the Southeastern shore of the Baltic Sea. While officially neutral during World War II, the soviets established five military bases in the country during the war. Because of this, from 1944 until 1990 the country was dominated by Soviet forces.
On March 11, 1990 the country once again declared its independence and struggled for many years to overcome a Russian blockade of the nation. Today Lithuania is a proud, independent nation of close to 3 million people who are working hard to restore the country’s native culture and traditions.
